Decidedly starting down the path of county collecting, I went to New England with the sole mission of seeing county seats. Even though I completed Rhode Island in a day, the state really is worth spending much more time.
Knowing nothing about Rhode Island other than the fact that it had Providence and it's wedged between Connecticut and Massachusetts. It's quite amazing for a state so small to have so many people!
Also: the official name is Rhode Island and Providence Plantations
One oddity is that Rhode Island (like Connecticut) has done away with county seats, so all the local courthouses have been repurposed for different things. For these counties, I visited the 'historic courthouses' that remain.
Newport is beautiful. The middle of the state (around Exeter) is beautiful. Providence is a great city. I'll likely be back to visit before too long!
